The Art of Recycling
Installation Flora is a community based art project in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny as part of the AKA (Alternative Kilkenny Arts) Fringe Festival 2017.
A front garden on Ladywell Street has been transformed into a veritable paradise of flowers, leaves and garden insects. It is a world of artful ideas of upcycling and recycling material. You will see a wealth of recyclables such as bags, tins, clothes hangers, fabric and plastic bottles upcycled into flowers, leaves and other garden sights. A transformation of rubbish/recycle into the beautiful.
Pictured in the garden are from left three members of the group that put the garden together, Nancy Paton, Polly Donnellan and Catherine Green.
It began with the idea of decorating the railings of a house for the AKA (Alternative Kilkenny Arts) Fringe Festival 2017, and grew to encompass the entire front garden. It is the collaboration of several local women and the result of a year of making these creations.
We are pleased with the results of our efforts and look forward to sharing them with the public during the AKA (Alternative Kilkenny Arts) Fringe Festival 2017. The garden is located on Ladywell and can be seen from the street. It will be open from 12-4 most days of the Festival.
